The best shower head with hose: Our Picks

To help you find your way around, we present selected products below. They should show you what is currently available and thus simplify your purchase decision.

Buying and evaluation criteria for shower heads with hose

To make it easier for you to compare different products, we have compiled a list of the most important buying criteria. You should keep these points in mind the next time you buy a shower head with a hose.

Shower head diameter

One of the most important criteria is the size of the shower head. This is measured by the shower head diameter in mm. This depends on personal preference. A smaller shower head is also lighter and can therefore be held more comfortably and longer in the hand.

It generally has a compact jet, although this setting can also be found in large shower heads. However, if you value a rain shower when you shower, it is best to get a large shower head. This can have a diameter of up to 160 mm. However, there are not only round shower heads, but also rectangular, square or other special shapes, depending on your preference.

Hose length

The length of the hose depends on how it will be used. If the shower head with hose is only used for the bathtub or its cleaning, a shorter hose of about 100 cm is sufficient. If you also want to use it in the shower, it should be longer. This depends on the size of the person or whether you want to hang the shower head on a shower head holder. You should measure this before buying a hose, but as a rule, a length of 150 cm is ideal.

Spray types

Independently of the shower, the shower experience can be adapted to one’s own needs. A shower head usually has different jet types that can be activated by turning or pressing a button.

A regular fixed jet, a massage jet and a fine rain shower are must-haves in modern shower heads.

Large shower heads tend to have more spray types, as their size gives them more room to manoeuvre. On average, a shower head has 3 to 4 spray types, but if you don’t need the different spray types, you can find good products without them.

The material not only plays an important role in the shower head, but also in the hose. The hose is usually made of stainless steel, as this makes it very flexible and resilient. An alternative is a hose made of plastic. The smooth surface makes it easy to clean and it is generally very stable.

The majority of shower heads are made of plastic, so-called ABS plastic. This is very resistant and can also be chrome-plated. With plastic, however, you should generally pay attention to the quality, as cheaper models break more quickly. Brass and stainless steel are more robust and resistant to impacts, but usually heavier.

Water consumption

An often neglected but also important criterion is water consumption. If you want to save money in the long term, buy a water-saving shower head. This uses 6 to 8 litres of water per minute as opposed to the conventional 12 to 17 litres. The water is mixed with air to save water and at the same time provide a powerful jet.

Guide: Frequently asked questions on the subject of shower head with hose answered in detail

In this section, we would like to answer the most important questions about shower heads with hoses. These should clear up some uncertainties before and after the purchase.

Which shower head with hose is suitable for me?

It is hard to imagine any shower or bathtub without a shower head with a hose. If you place a lot of value on a special shower experience, you should also invest more in the shower head with hose. Larger shower heads made of stainless steel are best suited for this, as they have more jet types and provide a stable hold. This can also have special functions such as an LED light.

Before buying, you should think about where it will be used. For example, a different shower hose is useful for a shower than for a bathtub. (Image source: pixabay / ErikaWittlieb)

This can create a certain mood while showering or indicate the temperature of the water. In addition, there are hand showers that contain minerals. These should act as a filter for limescale and bacteria and ensure more beautiful skin. Even if all the additional settings are not that important to you, it still makes sense not to save on the shower head and the hose.

Since you spend a lot of time in the shower in the long run, you should buy something that lasts a long time and is not cumbersome. A small, simple shower head with a long hose serves its purpose and is therefore perfectly adequate.

How much does a shower head with a hose cost?

The price of a shower head with hose depends on the functions, the size and the material. To give you an overview, we have created a table that shows which products you can get at which price.
Price range Available products
Low-priced (5 – 25 €) Small shower heads with few spray types, hose made of metal
Medium-priced (25 – 50 €) Shower head with more functions, already some sets with holder available
High-priced (from 50 €) High-quality materials, more functions, sets with holder and shower head

The table shows that good products are already available for little money. The price increases with the functions and additional items, e.g. brackets.

How do I change a shower head with hose?

The fitting diameter of the connections is standardised and is ½ inch. This means that when buying a shower head with hose, you should not worry about the size of the connection.

To remove the shower head from the hose, simply turn the nut of the hose anti-clockwise.

The hose can also be replaced by turning the nut on the shower fitting anti-clockwise. If this is difficult, a pair of pliers can help. However, a towel should be placed around the nut to avoid scratching the metal. When tightening the hose and shower head, the pliers should be used again to make sure everything is tight. Here it must be tightened in a clockwise direction.

How do I descale a shower head with a hose?

Even though some shower heads have an anti-limescale function, you should still clean them regularly. To do this, detach it from the hose. First remove the limescale superficially with a cloth and vinegar. Then it can be conveniently cleaned in the dishwasher. Alternatively, it can also be decalcified with home remedies. To do this, place the shower head in a bucket filled with water. Now, agents such as aspirin, citric acid or baking soda can be added to the water.

Before you rinse it off, you should let the remedies work for at least an hour. After that, you can mount it again. The hose can be decalcified in the same way. When using home remedies, make sure that the coating is not damaged. The manufacturer’s website can usually give you information on this.

Where do I dispose of a shower head with a hose?

If the shower head with hose is already old or you no longer like the way it looks, it should be disposed of. Often the shower head or hose can be made of plastic that has been coated with chrome. Therefore, one should first determine the main material and, if possible, disassemble it into its individual parts. However, waste disposal can vary from place to place. Basically, one should dispose of the shower head and the hose in a recycling bin, otherwise it goes into the residual waste bin.

Since we spend a lot of time in the shower, this moment of the day should also correspond to our wishes. An important factor here is the shower head with hose. Thanks to the hose, it provides flexibility and can increase the comfort of showering with the corresponding functions. In order to find the ideal shower head with hose, one should consider criteria such as the shower head diameter, the hose length, the spray types, the material and the water consumption.
