Although some items on the school supply list are only used for a period of time, the case is an accessory that, if well cared for, can last for many years.

No wonder, nowadays there are many different types of cases: large, small, with internal dividers, with or without accessories included, such as pens and pencils.

We will talk in detail about what differentiates a school case from another in Purchase Criteria.

Which items should you take in your school case?

Of course, the type and quantity of objects that you will keep in your school case will depend on your needs and study routine. However, in general, there are some indispensable items for the daily life of any student, of any school level.

Therefore, we list below the main items that you should take inside your school case:

  • Graphite pencils
  • Mechanical pencil
  • Pens
  • Sharpener
  • Protractor
  • Scissors
  • Eraser
  • Compass
  • Glue Stick
  • Ruler
  • Calculator

Remembering that this is a basic list. You can and should add or delete items according to your needs. In addition, it is important that you note that all items should fit inside the case.

It may sound silly, but if you consider the ruler and scissors, for example, it is important that you choose smaller sizes to fit in your case.

Which pens do you need to have in your school case?

You may have noticed that in the list of items to carry in your school case we mention “Pens”. But, what types of pens should you have?

The fact is that there are different options and it is important that you know each one of them to decide which will be the most functional to help your learning process.

So, check out the main types of pens that exist and choose the ones you consider most important:

  • Ball-pointpens: Ballpoint pens are those basic ones for making notes in the notebook. They are cheap, durable and resistant. There are fine, medium and thick tips. It is recommended to always have in your school bag a kit with a blue ball-point pen, a black one and a red one. To be safe, have more than one blue pen.
  • Highlighterpens: These pens are used to underline the most important information of a text or notes, which makes it easier when reviewing the content. Therefore, we recommend that you have at least two different colours of highlighters in your school bag.
  • Markerpens: these pens are colored, have a felt tip and a more vibrant colour. It is ideal for organizing notes in the notebook and highlighting important words such as titles, for example.
  • Synthetic-tipped pens: This is another option of colored pens that you can include in your school case. They are used to differentiate information and to underline. In this case, however, the pens have a very fine tip (0.4 mm).
  • Gel pens: Gel pens leave the writing with a satiny finish. They are ideal for those who like to polish their notebooks. This type of pen is also super comfortable and it is worth having at least one in your school case.

How to organise your school case?

Organising your school case is very important if you don’t want to waste time looking for the right pen, for example.

No wonder, nowadays you can find several tutorials on the Internet that teach the best way to organize all the items inside the case.

So, the main recommendation is that you always keep the items inside the school case starting from the largest to the smallest. For example, calculator, protractor and scissors should be placed at the bottom of the school case.

Then, add smaller items such as pencils, pens, erasers and pencil sharpeners. By doing this, you will certainly make your school case more organized so that you will have an easier time finding what you need.

Also, if your school case has a zip closure, you can organise it by placing it on its side with the zip facing left or right. This technique will help you use the maximum amount of space inside the case.

If your school case does not have spaces reserved to hold your pencils and pens, you can also use creativity. For example, you can collect all the crayons and tie them together with a rubber band. You can also do this with pens, markers and even crayons.

The same can be done if you like and need to use the paper clips. Use rubber bands or a small box to hold them before putting them inside your school case.

Besides increasing the organization you also make better use of the space inside the case by grouping the items by categories.

How to keep your school case well maintained?

In addition to organizing all the items inside your case, it is important that you take good care of it to increase its durability.

To begin with, clean your case at least once a month. After all, crayons and pens end up dirtying the inside of the accessory.

Not to mention that, as the school year goes by, your case gets increasingly full of pencil shavings, rubber stubs and pen ink. So by cleaning your school case regularly you can ensure that all this dirt doesn’t build up for a long time.

Also, remember that the heavier your school case is, the greater the risk of the structure tearing or getting damaged. Hence the importance of choosing the right case for the amount of items you will need to store.

Later on we will talk in detail about the different sizes available. But beyond that, it’s worth noting that there are other practical tips to help you keep your school case well-maintained. They are

  • Get rid of broken pencils and crayons;
  • Replace the pens and markers that leak;
  • Replace the refill for glue sticks and pencils;
  • Identify your case with your name and grade; if you lose it, it will be easier to get it back.

What are the advantages of the school case?

As we have seen, the case has many advantages. It is functional because it holds all the items that will be used in class and at home during your study time.

Therefore, it is also a practical accessory since it saves your precious time when looking for a specific pencil or pen. Not to mention that it is the ideal way to take and bring all these items from home to school and from school to home without running the risk of forgetting any of them.

In addition, a stylish case or even one with the theme you like the most also becomes an incentive to study.

Nowadays, besides the colourful cases, there are also those with drawings of children’s characters that are very popular with children. But, despite all these positive points, the school case also has its disadvantages.

The main one is that the cases made with higher quality material and those exclusive with illustrations usually have a very high price.

Even so, if you consider that the case can and should be a durable accessory, which will be used for many years, the cost-benefit may be worth it. Below, you can see the table with the main advantages and disadvantages of the school case:

  • Organizes school use items
  • Facilitates access to pens, pencils, erasers, etc.
  • Practical: can be taken anywhere
  • Versatile: has various sizes and models
  • The best quality ones with exclusive prints are very expensive

Buying criteria: What to take into account before choosing the school case

As we have seen, when choosing the most suitable school case you should look at your needs and your study routine. For example, depending on how many items you need to carry in your case, you will need a larger or smaller accessory.

But, besides this, there are other important factors that you should consider before acquiring the case that will de factor meet your expectations. These are:

Below, we will detail each of these factors so that you can have all the necessary information and buy the ideal school case.

The first factor you should take into consideration before buying your school case is the shape of this accessory. More than a personal choice, the shape of your case should reflect the amount of items you intend to store inside it.

However, it is also essential that you consider the practicality of carrying your case in your backpack or purse. Nowadays you will be able to choose between rectangular, square, briefcase, slim, wide, round and roll-up shapes.

Make sure that the format of the school case you choose does not take up too much space, which can become a nuisance when carrying it. For example, if you want to carry your case in a backpack, we recommend a case that looks like a small briefcase.

This model is usually thinner and, therefore, takes up less space. However, for carrying in a bag, the rectangular and wide school case will fit well. The novelty is the roller case which, of all, is the one that takes up the least space without in your backpack or purse.

As well as the shape, you also need to look at the size of the school case. Take into consideration the amount of pens and other stationery products you need to store in it.

The manufacturer brands, in general, inform on the packaging either the measurements or capacity of the case. A large case, for example, is usually 25 cm high, 17 cm wide and 5 cm deep.

A small to medium size school case may measure: 22 cm high, 6.5 cm wide and 6.5 cm deep. Considering the capacity, in general there are cases that can hold from two to 100 pencils.

Simple or Complete

This is a factor that is worth considering, because it can represent savings in your budget. This is because the simple school case is the one that comes without any item inside.

In other words, you buy the case and you are free to buy and choose the pens, pencils and erasers according to your needs and taste. The complete school case comes with a basic kit of items included.

The accessories that are part of the complete school case vary according to the size and brand. But, in general, this type of kit includes pens, pencils, pencils, crayons, ruler, scissors, erasers and sharpener.

The advantage of the complete set, therefore, is its practicality, since it includes practically all the items necessary to take to study, and the economy.

Another factor to be observed is if the school case has or not internal dividers, which help in the organization of the items that are placed there.

The cases with only one compartment, which is the most common model, are less practical since the items get loose and mixed. On the other hand, the school case that has compartments is the most functional. In general, there are options with two or three divisions.

Besides, the most modern sets already come with elastic bands to hold the pencils, the eraser and the sharpener.

Material of production

As we have seen, the material of manufacture is one of the points that will contribute to the resistance and durability of the school case.

The ideal is a case made of nylon. Besides this material being easy to clean, it is very resistant. You can also opt for cases made of fabric, leather and metal.
