Now that you know the seven best mop models, let’s talk a little more about the characteristics of this product, what are the advantages and disadvantages of it, what are the different styles, how much does this product cost and where to buy it.
After knowing all this, you will know how to choose the best mop to leave your house always clean and smelling good.
What is a mop and where to use it?
One example is the mop. This equipment is quite common in the United States and European countries, and arrived in Brazil a few years ago.
The Mop can be used to clean the floor, bathroom or kitchen walls, windows and glass doors, car interior and exterior, among others. Because the fringes are made of soft fabrics, it does not damage or scratch any surface.
There are several models of mop, which we will further detail in the next topic. The most complete is the model mop 360 °, because it replaces the other cleaning equipment and reaches even the most difficult places.
One of the coolest features of this model besides the 360º rotation (hence the name), is the ergonomics of the piece. Most of them have telescopic handles with adjustable height.
Another nice thing is that you won’t even need to touch the cloth to wring it out, because the mop has a centrifuge that removes excess water. These models also have a lock to remove the mop.
How to use the mop?
Have you ever noticed that the mop is composed of two buckets joined by a piece or with a division in a single piece?! Well, in the empty bucket you will put water with a little disinfectant.
Then you will dip the mop into this first partition, until all the fringes of the mop are soaked in water. Then transfer the mop to the second partition of the bucket and activate the centrifuge.
That’s it! You can now use the Mop. The ideal is to use it making circular movements in the shape of the number eight.
Another benefit of the mop is that it helps save water and disinfectant, as you don’t have to change the water several times.
You can also use the dry mop to remove the dust that accumulates on the floor during the day to day. The microfiber absorbs the dust and prevents it from spreading in the air and on the furniture.
After use, it is important to clean the mop to prevent it from becoming moldy or damaged. To clean the microfiber cloth, just detach it from the squeegee base and wash it with a little water and mild soap. Let it dry naturally.
One nice thing you can do is to sweep the house before using the mop, this way dirt and hair will not accumulate on the fabric. To remove large debris such as tree leaves, stick to using a broom.
Check out a table with the advantages and disadvantages of the product:
What differentiates a mop model from another?
Mop with roller
This type of mop replaces the mop with cloth because it washes and dries the floor. The mop with roller has a sponge that absorbs the water and a lever that squeezes the sponge and removes the absorbed water. The sponge should be changed sporadically for a refill.
The broom mop came to replace once and for all the common brooms, because the conventional mop of cotton, microfiber or wool is not always recommended, without prior cleaning, using the broom to collect dirt and hair.
This model sweeps, vacuums and collects waste automatically in a container attached to the broom, which should then be disposed of directly in the rubbish. The size of the handle is also adjustable and it does not emit noise.
The sheep’s wool mop is recommended to polish the floor or car with wax or other products that give shine. This type of mop ensures more uniformity in the application and does not shed, which results in a homogeneous finish. Because of the material, the wool mop can be machine washed and lasts up to 300 uses.
The glass mop is the ideal model for cleaning windows, as it has a long and light handle that reaches higher and harder to clean places.
On one side it has foam to clean the glass that does not scratch or damage the surface. On the other side it has a squeegee to dry the glass.
The dust mop has fibers made of cotton, acrylic or microfiber, three materials with great absorption capacity, and indicated to remove dust. This model removes the dust from the floor without lifting or spreading it.
Because of the mobility of the base, the dust mop reaches hard to reach places, such as under furniture or on edges.
The spray mop is the most modern model. It has a reservoir near the base that is used to put cleaning products, which are released during cleaning in spray drops triggered by a manual device on the handle of the mop.
The base is made of microfiber and this model can be used on cold floors, made of synthetic or natural raw material.
Mop or electric mop?
The difference is that you only need to activate the rotation function and position it in the places you want to clean.
This model has a rechargeable battery, which lasts about an hour and comes with a cable for recharging. The motor is capable of up to 300 RPM (revolutions per minute).
We prepared a table comparing the main differences and similarities between the conventional mop and the electric mop, check below:

The invention was a hit with his friends, so the inventor started to make some models by hand with the help of his children. 30 years later, he opened the first factory, White Mop, and the mop is still a success today
Buying Criteria: Factors to compare and rate the different Mop Models
Are you looking to buy a mop, but don’t know which model to choose? Don’t worry, because we are going to talk about the main purchase criteria, i.e. what you should take into consideration when choosing a mop model. They are:
Now we will detail each of the items mentioned above, so that you are not left with any doubts and you can choose an equipment that best meets your needs.
Mops use high-performance fabrics as the raw material of the mop, they are very efficient in absorbing dirt and liquid residues and very easy to spin.
Mops can be made of synthetic or natural fibres.
Some models come with a base and various refill options, while others are suitable for certain types of cleaning and surfaces and therefore use only one type of fabric.
We will divide this topic in two parts, to better explain the origin and types of natural and synthetic fibres. At the end, we will detail which are the best for each case, so that you don’t make a mistake when buying.
Synthetic fibre refills are resistant, easy to assemble and dry quickly. One of the most used types is microfiber, which is originated from the junction of polyester and polyamide (nylon), and when united they create a fiber capable of absorbing humidity, dirt and debris.
Another advantage of microfiber is that nylon creates a static charge that attracts dirt and holds it inside the fabric until it is washed.
Acrylic is another type of synthetic fibre, very similar to cotton, which can be washed without damaging the shape, is resistant to mould, mildew, oil, chemicals and sunlight.
Natural fibres are made from raw materials of plant origin like cotton or animal origin like sheep’s wool.
Cotton is one of the most commonly used types as it offers softness and softness and can be used on dry or wet surfaces. Ram’s wool is used to polish floors and surfaces.
Now, what you need to think about is: “In which situations will I use the mop?”. If you are going to use it to clean cold floors, choose models made of cotton, synthetic fibres or dense foam with high absorption power.
If the intention is to remove the dust, the cotton and microfiber fabrics are highly recommended, because they absorb the dirt without raising dust in the air or on the furniture. To polish and wax floors and car bodywork, opt for a sheep’s wool Mop.
Finally, choose models with soft sponge to clean glass and dry floors and abrasive sponges to remove impregnated dirt from rustic floors such as cement, natural stone, among others.
Usually the conventional mop comes with two compartments, one to put the clean water with cleaning product and the other with the centrifuge, only to remove the excess water from the fabric fibers.
In some cases the water that will be used in the cleaning and the centrifuge are in the same partition and the other partition serves only as a dispenser to store other equipment and cleaning products.
Either way, the buckets have different litre capacities from one another. The most basic model only holds five litres, while larger ones hold 10 to 20 litres.
Even the smallest models are very practical, because with the mop you don’t need to change the water frequently. Choose a model that best meets the needs of the size of the place you are going to clean.
Material of manufacture of the piece
The material of the bucket will always be PVC or ABS plastic, but it is important to choose well the material of the centrifuge. Because it is a metal piece that will be in frequent contact with water and strong chemicals, this piece should be stainless steel, because it does not rust.
Regarding the material of the cleaning refill, there are options with natural and synthetic fibers, we detail which types are more indicated according to the type of cleaning and surface that will be cleaned, read in the first topic of this section.
The conventional mop may have several extra features that make cleaning easier and faster. The handle with height adjustment is an almost fundamental requirement in the mop, because it helps to clean even the most difficult places without harming your column.
Another very useful piece is the pedal to attach and release the mop of the centrifuge. To use it, simply position the mop, lock it with the pedal, activate the spinning device (usually on the handle itself) and then unlock it using the pedal again.
To dispose of the dirty water after cleaning, some models come with a small lid at the bottom of the bucket, just open it directly into the drain, without having to come into contact with the dirt.
The carrying handle is also very useful to move the mop from one room to another. Some models also have wheels at all four ends.
Finally, the anti-mould support to air the refill and avoid the proliferation of fungus and bacteria is also very advantageous. But remember, after using the mop you should wash it and let it dry before using it again.
