The Best Indoor Football Shoes: Our Choices

Guide: Questions you should ask yourself before buying your indoor football shoes

What are indoor football shoes and why should I use them?

Indoor football boots are special football boots designed for use in an indoor sports hall. They come in all sizes and for all ages. Ladies, men and of course children are sure to find a suitable pair for themselves.

Normal outdoor football shoes are not suitable for indoor use. Street shoes are too heavy, not as well adapted to the foot, not as resilient and inflexible. Having a pair of indoor football shoes is therefore a must if you want to play indoor football.

In the hall, you need specific shoes. You cannot play on an indoor floor with normal football shoes.

Outdoor sports shoes get dirty quickly and dirt gets caught in the soles. This can be small stones and dust that often cannot be completely removed even with good cleaning.

If the shoes are now worn in the hall, this not only soils the hall but can also damage the hall floor. This is why indoor shoes are compulsory in almost all sports halls, including indoor football. In addition, the soles of normal shoes can leave marks on the floor that are difficult to remove.

What is special about indoor football shoes?

Indoor football shoes have some features that make them perfect for indoor use. For example, they are non-slip and stable. This allows you to move quickly and abruptly without losing your grip on the slippery indoor floor. They also allow air to circulate well. This prevents heat build-up on your feet.

Indoor football shoes are usually made of leather, imitation leather or synthetic materials. These make the shoes robust and resilient. In most cases, they are lighter than outdoor football shoes. They come in all sizes. There is a wide selection for children and adults.

Indoor football shoes are available with special cushioning. This is to stabilise the foot and ankle joint. This also protects the back and joints. They are not absolutely necessary for football, as shoes with cushioning are only absolutely necessary when there is a lot of jumping.

Of course, there is some jumping here and there, for example when taking headers, but it is much less intense than in other sports. If you still want to be on the safe side, you should get shoes with a shock absorber. This can prevent injuries.

The sole of indoor football shoes is smooth and flat so that the shoe has firm contact with the ground. This prevents you from slipping. The rubber material is slip and abrasion resistant and also provides stability.

The footbed adapts to the foot and provides good support. Often, gel pads and flexibility points ensure that you can make quick movements without any problems.

Indoor football shoes for wide or narrow feet

If you have wide or narrow feet, it can sometimes be difficult to find the right pair of shoes. That’s why it’s important to be very meticulous when buying and to consider a few factors. Then you should find the right shoe.

When you are in the shoe shop, you should try on different sizes. Sometimes shoes are too small or too big. Many people tend to buy shoes one size smaller so that the shoes are not too big.

However, this can be the wrong approach in some cases. If you buy online, order several sizes and send back the ones that don’t fit.

If you have wide or narrow feet, you need to be very thorough in your search. If you are well informed, it will definitely pay off.

Some shoes have a relatively wide fit and others a relatively narrow fit. Pay close attention to this when buying. You can often find good information on the internet. This can be customer reviews, tests or simply the description in the online shop. Even if you shop in a shop, you should find out about the fit before you buy.

The material is also important. Synthetic indoor football shoes do not fit your foot as well as leather shoes. That’s why we recommend real leather. It is stretchy and fits perfectly after only a short period of use. This improves wearing comfort and is of course particularly good for people with very wide feet.

Is there a difference between indoor futsal shoes and normal indoor football shoes?

Futsal is a type of indoor football with different rules and a special football that does not bounce much. Therefore, the indoor shoe must also have slightly different requirements. It is certainly possible to use normal indoor shoes, but if you play futsal often and a lot, you should get special shoes.

Futsal is played very fast and actions have to be completed quickly. That is why the tip of the foot, i.e. the toe, is often used to finish the goal. Shoes with a reinforced toe box help make the shot more bearable and avoid pain. They are the best choice for futsal.

How much do indoor football shoes cost?

Indoor football shoes are available from a budget of around €15 up to €300. It should be noted that the quality and comfort may be too low in the lower price segments.

The following table also gives you an overview of possible indoor football boot prices. This classification is based on three categories.

Type Price
Indoor football boots with Velcro fastening approx. 15 – 120 €
Indoor football boots with laces approx. 10 – 300 €
Indoor football boots with socks approx. 20 – 150 €

What are the latest innovations in indoor football shoes?

Every year, new, mostly improved models of indoor football shoes come onto the market. So it’s a good idea to always buy the latest shoes to keep up to date.

However, if you want to buy good indoor football shoes, they don’t always have to be the latest models. Old models that are very good get cheaper year after year and you can find good deals.

Look for discontinued models. They offer you a lower price and are usually of good quality. At the end of the day, what matters is that the shoes fit you and that you feel comfortable, not that you have the latest shoes.

What should I do if my indoor football shoes slip?

Even the most slip-resistant indoor football shoes can become slippery due to dirt and dust. If this happens and you notice that you are slipping more often, you should take action. Because in indoor football, a slip can have a big impact on the final result or even lead to an injury.

There are several ways to restore the shoe’s slip resistance. First, clean the sole thoroughly and make sure that most of the dust and dirt is gone.

If you still slip, you can spray hairspray or hair lacquer on the sole and rub it in. Moistening the sole with water or sugary drinks also works. Simply soak a cloth with it and wet the sole.

Care of indoor football shoes

Caring for shoes is important, and indoor football shoes are no exception. Among other things, you can prevent the sole from becoming soiled and thus ensure the shoe’s slip resistance.

Fortunately, indoor football shoes are easy to care for. Indoor floors are basically clean and as long as the shoes are not used outside, they do not really get dirty. To remove coarse dirt, washing with water and a brush is sufficient. A dirt eraser can be used for unsightly streaks.

You can always wash your indoor football shoes in the washing machine.

Always follow the manufacturer’s care instructions. However, you should never put leather shoes in the washing machine because they do not tolerate the heat.

If you have sweated a lot, you should dry your shoes in an airy place, otherwise you will get an unpleasant smell. It should be a shady place that is not too warm, as heat is not good for materials like leather and makes them stiff and brittle. It also helps to stuff your shoes with newspaper.

Leather shoes should be regularly rubbed with a wax cream or emulsion. This prevents the shoe from drying out. This preserves the elasticity and flexibility.

Use indoor football shoes outdoors?

You can use indoor football shoes outdoors if the surface is right and it is dry. Then they are suitable for jogging, running or even bolting. However, it is not recommended.

Did you know that indoor football and outdoor football do not only differ in the necessary footwear?

Apart from the footwear, the much smaller playing surface in indoor football and the consequently smaller number of players in indoor football are important distinguishing criteria. In addition, indoor football is faster, higher-scoring and there are often perimeter boundaries instead of sideline lines.

They are definitely not suitable for football on grass pitches, as they offer no grip and you will only slip. This is especially the case in rainy weather. Then you should not use the shoes on any surface outside, as they are also not waterproof.

Uneven surfaces are not compensated by the sole and you usually feel them through the sole. They are less durable and will break down quickly if you use them outside. The best surfaces for the shoe are asphalt and hard courts.

Decision: What types of indoor football shoes are there and which is the right one for you?

Basically, you can distinguish between three different types of indoor football shoes:

  • Indoor football shoes with velcro fastening
  • Indoor football shoes with laces
  • Indoor football shoes with socks

Indoor football shoes come in many varieties and designs. The basic construction of the shoes is mostly the same. Nevertheless, there are some types of shoes that have special features and can thus be seen as a separate type. We will introduce these in the following section.

What distinguishes indoor football shoes with Velcro fastening and what are the advantages and disadvantages?

Indoor football shoes with Velcro have a special closure made of Velcro that can be easily opened and closed and fixes the shoe to the foot. This makes these shoes particularly easy to put on and take off. You save time because there is no need to tie the laces. The velcro fastener also sticks tightly enough that in most cases it won’t just come undone again.

Advantages
  • Easy to put on and take off
  • Good for children, but also adults
  • Practical
Disadvantages
  • Velcro fastener gets dirty very quickly
  • Fastener must be cleaned regularly

Indoor football shoes with Velcro fasteners are particularly suitable for children, as they usually find it difficult to tie their shoes on their own. Shoes with Velcro fasteners can be put on by children themselves without any problems. However, adult shoes with Velcro are also becoming increasingly popular, as they are simply very practical.

The big disadvantage of indoor football shoes with Velcro is that they wear out quickly. Lint and hair quickly get caught in the Velcro. As a result, it doesn’t hold as well after a while. Therefore, it is very important to take good care of the shoes and, if necessary, to clean the Velcro and remove dirt.

What distinguishes indoor football shoes with laces and what are the advantages and disadvantages?

Indoor football shoes with laces are the classic among indoor football shoes and very popular. They have a lace to fit the shoe perfectly to your foot. This gives you a very good grip in the shoes. Generally, indoor football shoes with laces have a better fit than their Velcro counterparts.

Advantages
  • Can be laced individually
  • Very good support
  • Good fit
Disadvantages
  • Takes a little longer to put on
  • Opens easily if tied badly

Indoor football boots with laces do not have many disadvantages. That is why they are the most popular type of indoor football shoes. However, they take longer to put on because you still have to tie them and lace them up again if necessary. If they are tied badly, they also come undone easily.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of indoor football shoes with socks?

Indoor football shoes with socks are the new generation of indoor shoes. They have an integrated sock at the level of the ankle.

You can consider them a subspecies of indoor shoes with laces, as most models have laces. The shoes are higher and thus protect the ankle. This reduces the risk of injury. They also improve the feel of the ball.

Advantages
  • Better ball feel
  • Lower risk of injury
Disadvantages
  • More expensive
  • Requires extensive care

Indoor football shoes with socks are usually a little more expensive than the other types of indoor shoes. They also require more extensive care, otherwise they can be unhygienic. The sock absorbs a lot of sweat and dirt during play. Therefore, when cleaning the shoe, specific attention must also be paid to cleaning the sock.

Facts worth knowing about indoor football and indoor football shoes

What is indoor football?

Indoor football is a variation of football played indoors. As in normal football, two teams compete against each other. However, the length of the game is shorter, there are fewer players on the field and there are different rules. Instead of the sidelines, for example, there are often barriers.

Did you know that the goals in indoor football are smaller than in outdoor football?

In indoor football, the dimensions of the goals differ considerably. A size of 5 x 2 m is generally prescribed. However, depending on the organiser, the goals can also be smaller. In some cases, even handball goals are used for indoor football. These have dimensions of 3 x 2 m.

Indoor football is practised in winter when the weather is too bad to train outside. Then many club teams organise their own tournaments in the hall. This is to bridge the winter break.

History of indoor football in Germany

Indoor football is still quite popular in Germany. It has been around for a very long time, but it was not until the 1970s that it was introduced to clubs.

The first major indoor tournament was held in Berlin in January 1971. In the following years, indoor football boomed and many clubs discovered it as a way to bridge the winter break, and it was also broadcast on television.

In the 1990s, the DFB introduced the Indoor Championships. Many tournaments were held regularly during the winter break. Indoor football was still very popular for many years, but then lost more and more popularity.

The DFB finally discontinued its tournaments in 2002. Nowadays, indoor football is mostly played by amateur teams. However, there are still national tournaments here and there.

Important rules of indoor football

A team consists of twelve players. Depending on the size of the pitch, up to six of them can be on the pitch – the goalkeeper and five field players. The older age groups up to seniors, however, have one goalkeeper and only four field players.

The playing time is usually fifteen minutes. There may be a half-time interval during which the sides are changed. If the football exceeds a certain height, hits the ceiling or hanging objects, there is an indirect free kick.

There is no offside. If a match ends in a draw, there is a kick at the football goal from the penalty mark.

The game is played with a normal match ball. All free kicks are indirect. A penalty kick is taken from the penalty mark and all players, except the kicker, must be five metres from the ball. Throw-ins are rolled in. If the ball is kicked over the halfway line by the goalkeeper, a free kick is awarded.

If the ball rolls over the own goal line after the own player has touched it, a corner kick is awarded to the opposing team. Goalkeepers are not allowed to take return kicks from their own man.

Players may be sent off for two minutes if a red card is not justified but a yellow card is not enough. In case of a red card, the player is eliminated from the tournament and can be replaced by another player after three minutes.

If you concede a goal and have several penalised players, you can immediately restock your team.
