Each company offers instructions for use, this in which each adjustment procedure is explained in detail. In most cases, these are simple plug-in operations that can be carried out within a few seconds.

How do I remove a dough hook from the breadmaker?

There are 3 ways to do this:

This is important to find out the right time to remove the dough hook. Then, when removing the hook from the dough, it would be a good idea to either dust your hands with flour or rub them with oil to prevent the dough from sticking to your hands.
Remove the dough hook after beaking this process is much easier. If the hole in the bread caused by the dough hook does not bother you, it is advisable to remove it before baking your bread.
Automatic folding of the dough hook by special bread makers Only a few bread makers offer this function and they are often much more expensive than regular ones. The dough hook is automatically folded up before baking.

What should I do if the dough hook oxidises?

Aluminium has many advantages, which is the reason why this material is used in so many ways. However, after a certain time, aluminium tends to oxidise and form a surface coating. This coating is formed by cleaning in the dishwasher or by not using the dough hook for a long time. This causes the metal to become dull and a black film to form.

Only thorough cleaning with a brush, water and acidic cleaners will help. As soon as you notice oxidation, you should act to avoid worse consequences. Here is a short list of things you should do if you notice oxidation on your dough hook:

  1. Rinse the dough hook thoroughly with a strong jet of water to loosen dirt and debris.
  2. Clean the stuck deposits that have hardened due to oxidation with a coarse brush, hot water and washing-up liquid.
  3. Place the dough hook in boiling water and add vinegar. After 15 minutes, rinse the hook again with water to eliminate all oxidation. Repeating the process again will give a better result.
  4. Oxidation still not completely dissolved? Cut open half a lemon, treat the open side with salt and rub the dough hook thoroughly with it. At this point at the latest, the oxidation should have dissolved.

Steel wool or similar coarse cleaners will scratch the aluminium surface and oxidation will be harder to remove.

If you notice that this deposit cannot be removed, I advise you to dispose of the dough hooks. It is possible to contact the supplier and request a refund.

For which recipes is a dough hook suitable?

A yeast dough is considered very heavy and tough. Manual processing is usually very time-consuming and energy-intensive, so a dough hook can take a lot of the work off your hands. Pasta dough is also best processed with a dough hook, which means that the dough hook not only takes the work out of baking.

Meat can also be processed with a dough hook. Minced meat must be mixed and kneaded with the desired ingredients before cooking. This also works with a dough hook. This means that even for those who do not like to knead, buying a dough hook can bring advantages.

How can I prevent the dough from moving up the dough hook?

Everyone knows it. As soon as the dough hook starts working, the dough “climbs” up the dough hook and gets stuck. The dough is then difficult to loosen and moves up when the dough hook is switched on again.

This problem is not caused by the machine used, as most people assume, but rather by the dough. The order of the added ingredients or the consistency of the dough are decisive for this problem. Inserting the dough hook incorrectly can also cause the dough to move up the hook.

Our tips for this:

  • First add the liquid ingredients to the mixing bowl and then the dry ingredients. This ensures that the flour does not have a chance to stick to the bottom of the bowl and the dough gets the consistency it needs to avoid climbing up the hook.
  • Give the dough time. The dough should be kneaded for 5-10 minutes to be able to judge whether it is too dry or too wet. As soon as the dough moves easily up the dough hook and the other mass sticks to the bottom of the bowl, add some flour. If after 5 minutes the dough turns upwards completely as a mass towards the machine, there is clearly a lack of liquid.
