Minimalist shoes, or so-called barefoot shoes, have a very flexible sole. They give you the feeling of running barefoot, while still protecting your feet.

Ordinary running shoes

The so-called Crossfit Lifter is a shoe that wants to meet the demands of classic weightlifting, but is also ideally suited for Crossfit training.

The differences to ordinary weightlifting shoes are: the arch is lower and lifters have a light cushioning. To be able to lift heavy weights, the sole is usually stable in the heel area and softer in the forefoot. The shoe thus combines the requirements for training with fast movements and heavy weights.

If you like rope climbing, you should also pay attention to the so-called Rope Tec technology, which prevents abrasion and burning of the sole.


Especially crossfitters with limited mobility in the ankle joints should pay attention to the offset. This refers to the difference in height between the heel and the forefoot. This is especially important for squats, as it pushes the knees forward and allows for a clean execution.

Weightlifting shoes and Crossfit lifters in particular make use of this advantage. Here, the drop can be as much as 2 cm. Crossfit Allrounders, on the other hand, only have an offset of about 5 mm to ensure more mobility. Barefoot shoes usually have no offset at all.


Simply put: You have to feel comfortable in your Crossfit shoe. A tight fit in the heel area and sufficient space in the front area of the shoe is optimal. If your forefoot is compressed, the stability of the foot is reduced. The shoe should therefore offer the foot enough space to develop.

The shape differs from shoe to shoe. You need to know for yourself which shoe fits your foot and whether you need a narrow or wide shoe.


As already mentioned, Crossfit focuses on natural movements. Despite wearing shoes, it should feel as if you are barefoot. Therefore, good Crossfit shoes should be as light as possible.

How does a Crossfit workout work?

A training session lasts about 30 minutes. There are as few breaks as there are routines, because the variety of exercises is almost endless and you are surprised with a new “workout of the day” every time.

The coach plays an important role in Crossfit training. The coach decides on the exercises and sets the weight and the level of difficulty.

How do I clean my Crossfit shoes properly?

To get your shoes clean again after a hard workout, it is best to put them in a pillowcase and wash them in the washing machine at a maximum of 40 degrees. Use a mild detergent – this will preserve the colours.

Alternatively, you can wash your Crossfit shoes by hand. Simply mix warm water and liquid detergent in a bucket or in the bathtub and immerse and scrub the shoes.

Never put the shoes in the dryer to dry them, as this will attack the glue and damage them. To ensure that the Crossfit shoes dry well and evenly, it is best to stuff them with paper and then place them in a warm place.

What are classic Crossfit exercises?

As already mentioned, the exercises can be combined almost limitlessly. This results in a varied training programme and the body is trained comprehensively.

Nevertheless, the classics of Crossfit include squats, pull-ups, weight lifting, burpees and overhead squats. A power rack is also often used.
