You can experiment more and don’t have to follow the quantities given by a press.

However, these rarely turn out the same size and don’t hold together as well as burgers made with a press. Nevertheless, there are a few tips that can help you with DIY.

For the right amount, you can either weigh your patties or use the size of a tennis ball as a guide. Some amateur chefs also use an ice cream scooper.

When making your patty, make sure the fat content is not too low, as this not only adds flavour but also makes your burger easier to hold together. A mixture of 80 to 20% is ideal. The 20% describes the fat content.
When shaping, make sure you put a small dent in the middle of the burger at the end so that it doesn’t deform easily. The burgers should be larger than the bun, as they will lose liquid and shrink a little during frying, grilling or baking.

This also applies after you have used a burger press: If you want to fry the burger, you should only use a small amount of oil, as the fat of the burger itself will seep out during frying and thus help to fry it.

Some materials, such as aluminium or stainless steel, are particularly easy to clean.

Others, such as plastic or wood, should be handled more carefully. Plastic should be cleaned gently but thoroughly so that it does not become porous. Wood can also benefit from an oil treatment. Oil closes the pores and makes the wood particularly resistant to germs.

You don’t have to buy specially made wood oil; oils such as coconut, olive and especially linseed oil are excellent for coating wood.

Recipe for meat burgers with a burger press

Here we would like to present a recipe for meat burgers: It is enough for about four servings.

600 gr ground beef
1 tsp Worcester sauce
as needed salt and pepper
3 tbsp vegetable oil
4 slices processed cheese
4 leaves frisée lettuce
2 tomatoes
4 tsp tomato ketchup
4 burger buns

Peel and dice the onion and mix into the minced meat. Wash and dry the lettuce. Wash and dry the tomatoes and cut into slices. Season the minced beef with Worcester sauce and pepper and form 4 flat burgers with a burger press.

Heat a little oil in a frying pan and fry the burgers well in it, then fry over a low heat for 6 minutes and salt, turn once and salt again a little. Just before the burgers are cooked, top with 1 slice of cheese and let it melt.

Halve the hamburger buns and toast each one with the cut side up until crispy
toast until crispy. Then top all the bottom halves with lettuce, place 1 burger on each and cover with the top half of the hamburger buns. Serve immediately.

Also: The All-American burgers can be topped with slices of cucumber and onion and spread with mustard, mayonnaise or another sauce, depending on taste.

Recipe for vegan or alternatively vegetarian burgers with a burger press

Here we have a recipe for vegan or vegetarian burgers:

as needed chickpea flour
as needed garlic, parsley, paprika spice, chilli, pepper, salt

Put the chickpeas and kidney beans in a bowl and mix together. Add the herbs and spices. Feel free to mash the ingredients a little. Add the chickpea flour until it binds.

If you like, you can add some feta cheese to the burger. Line the burger press with a piece of baking paper. One sheet is enough for all the patties, you don’t always have to use a new one.
