A Blue Tit Nest Box is a wooden box that has been specially designed to attract blue tits. It can be mounted on the outside of your house or in an outbuilding, such as a shed or garage. The nest boxes have holes for ventilation and are fitted with perches so birds can easily enter them. They also contain nesting material (usually wood shavings) which makes it easy for the bird to build its own nest inside the box.

The Blue Tit Nest Box is designed to be hung from a tree branch, fence post or other suitable place. It has an entrance hole at the front and two ventilation holes in the back for air circulation. Inside there are four compartments which can be used as nesting boxes by birds such as blue tits, great tits and coal tits. There is also a central compartment that acts like a chimney to allow warm air generated inside the box to escape through one of the vents on top of it so helping keep eggs warmer during incubation (see diagram below).

Blue Tit Nest Box: Frequently asked questions

What types of Blue Tit Nest Box are there and what determines a good product?

There are several different types of Blue Tit Nest Boxes available. The most common type is the traditional wooden nest box, which can be purchased from a variety of retailers and online stores. You may also find some that have been made out of recycled materials such as plastic bottles or old CDs. If you want to make your own, there are plenty of plans for DIY boxes on the internet too – just search ‘blue tit nest box’ in Google Images to see what I mean.

A good nest box is one that the birds can get into and out of easily, with a hole size they find comfortable. It should be placed in an area where there are trees or shrubs for them to perch on while feeding their young. The entrance hole must not face directly south so as to avoid overheating during hot weather; it should also have some protection from rain and wind if possible. Nest boxes need cleaning regularly (at least twice a year) but this does not mean removing all the old nests – just remove any dead material inside such as feathers etc., then replace the lid firmly back onto its hinges. If you do decide to clean your nest box completely, take care when doing so because Blue Tits will defend their territory against intruders by attacking whoever disturbs them at home. They may even attack other species of bird which enter their nesting site too early in spring before they have finished re-nesting themselves after wintering away somewhere else..

Who should use a Blue Tit Nest Box?

Blue Tit Nest Boxes are designed for use by blue tits, but they can also be used by other small birds such as great tit and coal tit. They may not suit larger species of bird or those with a preference to build their own nest holes in trees.

Based on what criteria should you buy a Blue Tit Nest Box?

The main thing is to buy one that has the correct dimensions for your birds. If you are buying a nest box from an online store, make sure it’s described as being suitable for Blue Tits and check out their size guide before ordering. It might also be worth asking them if they have any in stock so you can physically see what type of boxes they sell – some companies only supply very small or large ones which won’t suit most people.

There are a few things to look out for when comparing Blue Tit Nest Boxes. The first thing is the size of the hole in which you will be placing your eggs. If it’s too small, then there’s no point buying that nest box as your birds won’t use it. You also need to make sure that if you have more than one bird nesting at once, they can both fit inside comfortably and not feel cramped or squashed up against each other. Another important factor is how easy it would be to clean – this may sound like an odd thing but trust me on this one; having a nest box with lots of little nooks and crannies where dirt could get trapped makes cleaning them very difficult indeed. Finally, check whether or not there are any gaps around the entrance holes so that predators such as squirrels cannot gain access easily through these spaces.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a Blue Tit Nest Box?

Advantages

The Blue Tit Nest Box is designed to attract the attention of blue tits and other small birds. It has a roof which helps keep out rain, snow and predators such as cats or squirrels. This means that your nest box will be more likely to survive through winter than an open-fronted one would be.

Disadvantages

The main disadvantage of a Blue Tit Nest Box is that it can be difficult to find the right location for one. If you put it in an area where there are lots of predators, such as cats or squirrels, then they will probably destroy your nest box and kill any chicks inside. You also need to make sure that the entrance hole isn’t too small – otherwise adult birds won’t be able to get into their nests.
